#89 Marlo And LoLo
We were missing one animal when we moved the main herd around the barn and down the Rabbit Run to the far, far field. We found #89 Marlo off by herself in a small patch of meadow near the river, except she was not really by herself. Tucked into thick underbrush and sleeping soundly was a sweet heifer calf. That was the reason she had not been with the rest of the herd, she was busy calving.
Rather than try to move Marlo and her daughter around, we opted to feed her some hay at the edge of the meadow until she was ready to bring her newborn to meet the rest of the herd. We only had to wait until the next day when Marlo and her calf were pacing the fence line looking for a way to get into the Rabbit Run.
Once the gates were opened, Marlo and her baby hurried down the path to the river and crossed over to the main herd. The baby was right by the upstream side of her mother at her front shoulder, the mild current held the calf firmly against her mother as she took her first swim.
Welcome to the farm, LoLo born 4/29/21 weighing in at 79 lbs.
