Just How Big Is Prowler
When our herd sire is out with the main herd, he looks larger than the big mama cows we have. Now that we have him secluded with the two show cows, his girth and height can be observed at a closer proximity.
We had to upgrade his accommodations to allow for his huge head and neck. He simply cannot fit into the head stanchions that the cows use to reach hay and grain in the show barn. We fashioned an open gate for him to stick his head into while keeping the food contained. Prowler is moved into his own feeding pen so that the show cows don’t bother him while eating. Since he is a calm sort, all I have to do is unlock the pen and he casually strolls in where the pan of grain awaits.
His head barely fits through the opening of the larger head gate. His stands on the lower level of the barn floor which is two inches shorter than the manger area and where I stand while he is eating. I am able to scratch his neck and back (he loves the curry comb) while he is lunching and I still cannot see over his back.
Since Mike is pretty accurate with weights, I had him look over the herd sire and it was decided that Prowler would probably tip the scales at 2400 lbs. No one can state that we don’t have a lot of bull around here!

You certainly do have a lot of bull. When a lot of bull is of the calm sort, a lot of bull can be a good thing.
Prowler seems so much bigger during those unusual times when I bring him into the barn. He has been a good mix for our lineage.
