Spoke To Soon
The cattle are plotting against me. It was just yesterday that I had written that I liked to keep my barn kept tidy in an effort to create a safe environment for the cattle that are residing near, around and in the pastures around the structure. As near as I can figure, while I was writing that story, there was an insurrection going on.
The pen that houses the new, young, herd sire, heifer #47, and the older of last years twin calves, failed. One of those four critters, I don’t know which one because no one is talking, chewed the twine that secured the gate until it was loose ( I did notice the chewed string a couple of days ago but did not think if was an issue because I had it knotted several times), then rubbed the corner until the string broke (probably with an itchy neck or backside).
While I was chatting on about neat and tidy, the four were cavorting around the wide expanse of clean cement, peeing and pooping everywhere, pulling hay bales off the stack where they fell into the adult cow pen, upended every crate and box and tried to get into the 2-ton grain sack. They munched the hay bales and pulled several of them apart from the twine sending them fluffing out to huge dimensions. The clean part of the barn looked like a bomb had gone off.
Once they were done with their antics, the foursome calmly returned to their assigned pen to do a little resting. That is when I showed up for the morning chores. I had to jump right in to get the barn back in order before getting the other pens of cattle fed. I didn’t even have time to get a picture of the chaos, so I’m posting a relaxing cat photo instead.

It almost looks like the cats from your tidy barn picture were imploring you to look and listen; that there was an insurrection going on close by. Or if it is the love nest for the cats that you suggested, I hope you will share pictures when their kittens are born – should be an interesting combination of color and stripes.
No telling about the feral barn cats, they may have been the original plotters in the insurrection. I would not put it past them, perhaps this is a conspiracy…
