High Water
We have been experiencing quite a bit of weather this last week and into this week. The wind storm we were all hunkering down for did not materialize, and I am very grateful for that!
The rain has been consistently sopping. The river has been tumultuous and running high. I wanted to forage for wild mushrooms, but it is too wet for that, they would be way too soggy to be good. It looks like over 6 inches of rain over the last week and everything is pretty darn muddy everywhere. We are having trouble keeping the overflow out of the barns and even in the garage where it is seeping in under the door frames.
Baby earthworms have been spotted en masse clinging to the doors and walls of the side of the house in an effort to keep from drowning. Besides accumulating rainwater in the moisture meter, flies are trying to get out of the rain also and I have to dump the pests out each morning in order to measure rainfall amounts.
It is also warmer than usual hovering around and above the 40 degree spot at nights and around 50 in the daytime. The frogs are loving it. One happy camper moved into the garage and has been singing at times to be in a drier area than his compatriots. We are going to have to hunt him down eventually, but we have so many cribs of firewood that are only half-dried taking up most of the open space of the garage that we cannot seem to find him at the moment.
If there are any professional frog catchers out there, I could use your advise on this particular Prince Charming.

Flies in your rain gauge? Ugh! Yesterday, when we went to get into our RTV during a sunshiny time, a hatch of bugs flew out – moisture and heat, I guess. Is this a taste of a buggy year if we don’t get a hard freeze?
Been also finding bees trying to move into the garage, Mike has swatter duty.
