Mica Found A Good One

Our newest calf, Mica, fits in well with the the other two calves with their mothers in the nursery field. Both NinetyNine and Titan are showing Mica all the fun things to do like kicking up their heels and making circles around the cows as they are trying to eat hay.

Mica has found several depressions in the hay field to lay down and stay out of the wind on those chilly days and is none the worse for wear during the wet, rainy days. She has figured out that when we come out into the field with the Gator everyone runs to greet us.

calf huffing out steamDuring the evening chores on a clear day, the sun had just about set and it was clear from the chill in the air that it would soon be freezing. Mica came running to the Gator as we tossed out slabs of hay. She stopped right in the middle of a pile of fluffed hay and panted from the exertion. She looked just like the cartoons when a bull is huffing out  huge volumes of smoke out his nostrils before charging some unsuspecting victim.

Mica was just wanting to be in the middle of all the fun and before long she plopped herself on the fluffed hay for that was the best spot in the whole field. Mica’s mother had to eat dinner around the resting calf.

Love the picture. Good thing she was just breathless from running and not ready to charge (or at least having visions of what it must be to charge at a human).
