Racing The Daylight
It is that time of year as the hours of daylight dwindle long before we are ready to end the work day, and yet we still have another month to go before the days slowly begin to get longer.
This evening we were scrambling to get across the river to get the main herd fed before dusk settled in. We were put behind because we were busy trying to shuffle the wood that was dry out of the garage so we can put the next round of damp wood in tomorrow.
With the rainy day, every task we worked on soaked us to the skin and we had to change clothes several times. But just as we were losing sunlight, the clouds faded away and the cool evening brought in a thick fog that poured through the fir trees and settled in the hay fields.
It was a beautiful ending to a busy day even though it was one of the shorter days of the year.
