Random Dude
I am very fortunate to have a large family. It comes in handy when things come up and you need advice, technical gizmo training, help in an emergency or just about any situation. One or more family member is sure to be able to help, supply an answer or be able to connect with someone who can.
The other day Marilyn had an issue with her car. It overheated, wild dashboard alarms went off and she pulled to the side of the road. It happened to be at the old, defunct, falling down Mountaindale Store, but there was plenty of space to get off the road. She opened the hood and called me for advice. I am no good when it comes the workings of engines and such. Unless a sledgehammer would fix it, I am not the person to call. Mike was out in the hay field and wouldn’t be able to hear his phone ring. So while she pondered what the engine looked like, I called my brother to see if he was available to drive over there to check out the situation. He said he would head right over.
About that time, a Random Dude stopped by to see if he could assist the situation. He took one look at the motor and said that she had problems and should have the car towed to Duyck’s shop in North Plains a few miles away. (I highly recommend Duyck’s shop for vehicles especially brake jobs, but Billy is always booked way in advance simply because he is that good). Marilyn said thanks to the Random Dude but her Uncle was on the way, Random Dude wished her good luck and took off.
Within a minute or two, Random Dude #2 pulls over and offers to look at the motor. #2 was not as nearly as concerned as #1 was and stated that Marilyn must have run short on coolant and overheated. They were in the process of filling the reservoir with water when my brother, her Uncle, showed up. Random Dude #2 and Uncle had a serious discussion with their heads under the hood, had Marilyn try a quick drive around the corner and decided that she was good to drive but needed to check for leaks when she got home and sent her on her way. She made it home with no problems.
Thank goodness for family members and Random Dudes, I cannot count the amount of times we have been saved from minor and major problems because of them.
PS If your name is Dean, aka Random Dude #2 who stopped at the Mountaindale Store to help a traveler in distress, we didn’t get your phone number but want to thank you for your kindness!
