#8 Crystal And Lead

With the main herd moved to the far, far field we are once again driving up the road with hay on the Gator for the daily feeding with a quick count assuring everyone is there and doing well. We have been watching one cow that is close to calving and she was missing from the herd as we fed hay.

#8 Crystal had moved well away from the herd and the trouble making KAOS calf that has been picking on newborns. We found her on the far side of the fenced hay field tucked away under some tall fir trees with her newborn calf comfortably sleeping by her feet.

She was  a smart cow to move so far away from the main herd, but she was very hungry by the time we came along with an extra slab of hay left in the Gator for her.

By the third day, Crystal had moved the calf in with the main herd and escorted him through the river as we called them all across the river and up the rabbit run to graze around the big field and barn.

Welcome to the farm, bull calf Lead. Born 5/8/20 and weighing in at 75 lbs.
