#49 Nyad And Little And Piddle

Yesterday you heard the saga of the twins. It was iffy that we would be able to get #49 to accept either of the babies, the smallest of the two was not very vigorous at first and we worried that she would not survive, we were expecting colder weather with a possible snow storm, things did not look good.

I am happy to do this post a week after the twins were born to say that Nyad now nurtures each calf lovingly and is producing all the milk they need to thrive. The twins have bonded with each other and with their mother. The family is getting more time out of the barnyards and into spacious fields where they can spend the days lounging in the sunshine.

Welcome to the farm both heifer Little who weighed in at 40 lbs., and her brother Piddle boasting 52 lbs. at birth. Born on 3/8/2020.

(A note for those who notice I usually have the SAF in front of their names signifying that they will be registered stock and that those letters are missing from the twins…having twins is not a trait that we want to carry forward with our breeding stock and they will not be registered but will become part of the commercial herd rather than for breeding)
